Ayurveda Medical Group

Clinical Services

The clinical practice of the Ayurveda Medical Group follows a comprehensive and wholistic multi-modal approach of treatment instead of a piece meal or partial practice of ayurveda. The goal of this approach is to bring wholistic health, happiness, longevity and fulfillment to all aspects of life.

The desires of our clients, whether they be for prevention, increasing immunity, correcting imbalances, maintaining total health, or treating chronic disease, are meet through a multi-modal approach of diet, lifestyle, herbs, yoga, panchakarma, etc.

The specialty of ayurveda is that every aspect of a multi-modal approach (diet, herbs, etc.) are tailored according to the individual's own body/mind type and imbalances.

Programmes offered include:

  • personal health consultations
  • phone health consultations
  • panchakarma programmes
  • marma therapy
  • yoga and meditation

Health Consultations

Ayurvedic health consultations, conducted by qualified ayurvedic consultants, consist of

  • Evaluation of an individual's min-body type.
  • Pulse diagnosis, a scientific, systematic method of diagnosis for the evaluation of an individual's condition of health or imbalance.
  • Education about ayurveda so that one understands one's own health.
  • Program recommendations including diet, herbal combinations, exercise routine, and detoxification treatments, all tailored according to the individual's need.

Health consultations are useful for both those in good health, who are interested in prevention and rejuvenation, and for those who are experiencing health problems, who want to restore health and balance to their lives.

These health consultations can be carried out in person or by telephone (excluding pulse diagnosis). To arrange a consultation, simply telephone the health centre nearest you and make an appointment.

Panchakarma and Rejuvenation

Shirodhara treatment

Shirodhara treatment.

panchakarma is a series of pleasant treatments, applied by trained technicians, which calm the mind and purify and strengthen the physiology. The treatments can be tailored for

  • specific imbalances and chronic disease.
Treatments may be 1 day (taste), 3 days, 5 days, 14 days or longer according to individual need based on diagnosis and degree of imbalance.
  • rejuvenation and prevention,
treatments may be 1 day (taste), 3 days, 5 days, or 14 days according to individual need and convenience.

More information on panchakarma.

Normally, the specific program for panchakarma therapy is is given by a ayurvedic consultant during a health consultation, however, individuals many also elect to choose specific treatments they would like to have done.

Some of the aspects of a full panchakarma program include:

  • a number of days of "home preparation" involving specific dietary recommendations and simple purificatory procedures,
  • a sequence of treatments applied each day by trained technicians - the treatments take about 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day,
  • a simple diet to follow during the days treatment -- also, it is good to arrange to have a very relaxed schedule with as much rest as possible at this time,
  • and, some dietary recommendations to follow for the few days after the treatments.

The treatments can be carried out "in residence" (a private room and meals are provided), or as "out patient" (meals provided if desired).

To find out more about panchakarma treatments, including costs and locations, please phone the centre nearest you.

Marma Therapy

Ayurveda defines marma as vital energy points - these points are the congregation of two or more bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, vessels, nerves, organs, etc. A marma point is the site of concentrated energy (life force - prana) which ayurveda recommends be protected. These marma points are related to various systems and organs and are spread all over the body. There could be several causes of imbalances to marma points such as injury, inherited weakness, or toxins or ama blocking the flow of energy.

Different kinds of marma therapy programs are becoming popular and are offered either to complement other ayurveda treatments or alone for prevention or health maintenance, as well as to treat specific disorders.

Preventative treatments: This program is offered in the form of whole body massage, with special attention to marma points like the heart, brain and kidneys (the three great marma points - three main regulators of life) and other marma points which might be weak or blocked in a person due to, for example, inheritance. Specially prepared herbalized oils blended with essential oils (aroma oils) which have a balancing effect on the three dosha (vata, pitta and kapha) are recommended for the whole body massage according to dominant dosha. These treatments help free up blockages and maintain the flow of life energy in a coordinated and harmonious way, so that all the systems function properly.

Restorative treatments for specific imbalances: these treatments are offered by trained marma therapists - a gentle pressure massage using a specific pattern, with a particular combination of essential oils is given to the associated marma points to produce beneficial effects on disorders. Conditions that are successfully treated by marma therapy include sinus, migraine, headaches, bronchial asthma, arthritis, sciatica, chronic fatigue, immune disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, neuromuscular tension and pains, thyroid disorders, dizziness, hypertension, skin disorders, depression, etc.

Typically, marma therapy treatment sessions are given 2 to 3 times a week for 6 to 8 weeks, with each session taking between 1/2 to 1 hour.

Yoga Exercise

Ayurveda and yoga are integral parts of an ayurveda health consultation. Yoga is described in the texts of ayurveda and visa versa - they have been practiced together for thousands for years and are very complementary. Yoga recommendations have two main aspects: asanas (postures - neuro muscular coordination) and pranayam (balancing breathing exercises - neuro-respiratory coordination). Yoga is found effective in improving mind-body coordination, flexibility, physical and mental strength and energy, in boosting the immune system, and as a preventative procedure. In a health consultation, specific asanas and pranayam may be recommended for correcting various kinds of imbalances. In addition, yoga classes will be offered in conjunction with trained yoga teachers for prevention and health maintenance.
